Leonardo Meigas presents his works in Rome

The next guest of the International Seminar in Rome "Small Baltic Conversations: Architectures, Cities and Heritage of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia" on May 10 is Leonardo Meigas from Estonia (on the photo).

Leonardo Meigas is a highly qualified Estonian designer with extensive experience.

His field of work extends from interior design to furniture, lamps and timepieces, communication design and corporate logos. Ceramics designed by Meigas have reached Belgium, France, Finland and Denmark. Other projects include VIP-area of the airplane An-74, visual information for Tallink cruise ships, corporate graphics for Estonian as well as Costa Rican, British, Ukrainian, American and Russian companies.

Leonardo Meigas has designed large scale light installations. A part of the millennium project „Time” (1999/2000) was reputedly the world’s biggest laser clock that showed real time on the facade of Tallinn City Government. „Hartmann’s Grid“ (2012/13) engineered by him was installed in the public spaces of Torun (Poland), Durham (England) and Riga (Latvia).

Meigas has curated and designed a number of exhibitions in Europe and elsewhere.

Meigas is the author of „Uprolls“, the concept of upcycling industrial waste, and he designes new products made of cardboard tubes. Seats designed by him were also used in the Estonian pavillion at EXPO Milan 2015.

The International Seminar "Small Baltic Conversations: Architectures, Cities and Heritage of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia" is curated by Donatella Scatena and Marco Falsetti from the Sapienza Univeristy with the Department of Architecture and Design and the Centre of Baltic Studies at the Sapienza University. The institutional greetings for the Estonian seminar come from S.E. Marika Lampi, Consul at Estonian Embassy in Rome. The conference day is moderated by Donatella Scatena, Marco Falsetti (Sapienza University) and Ülle Toode (Center of Baltic Studies).

The conference is held on the Zoom platform in English.

The Seminar "Small Baltic Conversations: Architectures, Cities and Heritage of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia" aims to address, within a wider interdisciplinary debate, the architectural culture in the context of wider heritage of the Baltic countries.

In the focus of the conference there is an interdisciplinary debate and the exchange of ideas of the scientific community of Sapienza University in Rome and the academics from the field of architecture, design, art and culture in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, in order to boost international and intercultural collaboration of researches and practitioners in the field.

The seminar enjoys the patronage of the Embassy of Estonia, the Embassy of Latvia and the Embassy of Lithuania.
